Ciao Essity!Published: 2019-05-27 10:00
Can you imagine a warm laugh under pouring rain, a macchiato freddo on a shining green meadow, or a pizza with banana and curry on top (of course you Swedish readers do, but let me tell you that this can’t be called p-i-z-z-a!)?
This is how I feel when I am asked to describe myself today.
I spent almost three decades of my life in my home country – Italy – where I have been mainly working in Purchasing departments for different international E-Commerce and TV sales companies, despite my humanistic education (Bachelor’s degree in Translation and Communication).
During summer 2017 I felt the need to unsettle my life and give it a new sense: “adventure” was my new motto when I bought a one-way ticket to Sweden, charmed by the idea of experiencing life abroad and trying to build my life from scratch. When I left Milan, I didn’t know anybody in Gothenburg; I had neither an apartment, nor a job. 12 moves, 6 temporary jobs, 500 hours of Swedish language study brought me to the beginning of my experience at Essity in April 2018, where I started as a consultant. I am officially part of GBS Procurement Operations since November 2018!
Going back to my first lines Sweden and Italy are way opposites, but they are pretty much melting together in my soul and that is why I feel like a balanced mix of the two cultures. Yes, I still shake my hands as a perfect stereotype but I cry out “Mamma mia” only among compatriots – I promise. You will probably notice my puzzled expression while I sip my bryggkaffe (Herregud!) sitting at my GBS desk, but it’s still a good help to make it till the end of the day.
What helps me most with this, though, are my amazing colleagues. And kanelbullar, of course.
Given that my job is to facilitate Sourcing flows, my everyday tasks in Procurement Operations include the supervision and approval of orders in Ariba purchasing system and the support to the users in regard to this. Beyond this, I am also an intermediate key step in the vendors creation process. Feel free to pass by my desk at Floor 7th for anything!
What I like most about Essity are the people: a small world including end-to-end processes I am everyday learning about, run by enthusiastic multicultural employees that enjoy what they do.
I got inspired by many of you, guys – it’s time to give something back!
Personally I nurture a passion for simple things, travels (ohhh yes), music (both listening and playing), food (guess why?) and languages (have a coffee with me and try to pick one of the 6 I studied – it’s gonna be fun to laugh about the sweet mess coming out of that!).
My aim is to analyze, reflect, inspire and share something through this blog, as sharing is caring – and Essity knows much about Care.
I can’t promise the hidden secrets of Spaghetti al ragù recipe, but I will be thrilled by sharing impressions and experiences through the eyes of a foreigner.
Välkommen åter, amici!
